Random thoughts Stray memories

"When my daughter tells me a secret," Win said, "her hands get very busy. She takes my arm, grabs me by the shirt collar, pulls me close, pulls me into her life. She knows how intimate secrets are. She likes to tell me things before she goes to sleep. Secrets are an exalted state, almost a dream state. They're a way of arresting motion, stopping the world so we can see ourselves in it.[...] My little girl is generous with secrets. I wish she weren't, frankly. Don't secrets sustain her, keep her separate, make her self-aware? How can she know who she is if she gives away her secrets?"
- Don DeLillo, Libra

I've forgotten how beautiful his words are.

Another draining day in the office.

I worked continuously except for a 15 minute lunch break, and then I stopped in the evening when I wasn't thinking clearly anymore. I was too exhausted to run after that, even though you had started keeping a spreadsheet to track how frequent and long our runs were.

In the cab over to your place, I kept yawning as I struggled to stay awake. The cab driver asked if I was an accountant (which I'm not), because he used to be one and was often as tired as I looked. He said he decided to drive a cab instead 4 years ago, and never looked back. I thought about it but no, I would make a lousy cab driver.

You cooked dinner instead, and we veged out watching American Idol on TV. And it was good, just being with you.

If only you can sit everyday in my work cubicle and boost up my flagging spirit.

Funniest quote of the day from a co-worker regarding work:
"If the company ask me to sweep floor, I will sweep floor.. but I will choose which floor to sweep."

Life has become unpredictable at work because someone screwed up the placement of drinks in the vending machine on our floor. What used to be a simple act now became a memory game, as I tried to remember for example, if the button for "Green Tea (not so sweet)" was surprising me with Lemon Barley instead. A few unclaimed packets of drinks laid within the dispensing chute as people gave up guessing.

It might sound pathetic to say this actually made work more fun.
But it had.
