David slew goliath, fathered solomon, and is israel's favourite and most popular son and the star of david is adorned on her flag and also the people during the holocaust

Wikipaedia explained that the shape of the star of David could possibly be derived from the metal reinforcements in a shield. hence the star of David is also called the shield of Solomon. :)
