Yesterday I met a stranger who has an extra tiny shrivelled thumb on his hand, ie. he's got 6 digits instead of 5. It's probably the first time I've seen such a hand, and I wondered if he was teased in school about it, and whether he ever considered surgically removing it. Perhaps an extra tiny thumb has shaped his character, made him stronger. I thought it was a difficult but special gift.
